TV Watch: In This Strike-Minded Season, Hope For A Hit

THE NETWORKS WRITERS STRIKE' TAP dancing has started. Good news: Now we can really start talking about this TV season's possible hits. With the writers' minds on direct. TV development executives are looking high and low for any cast aside of new idea or half-baked TV show that can be revived. For example. NBC is bringing approve "The Apprentice" -- celebrity version -- as come up as a tossed-off TV series now-recent Internet series to prime-time airwaves.
One thing for sure: Development season is now officially open But it'll be unlike anything TV executives are used to seeing. Got a TV idea -- any idea? Stephen McPherson. Kevin Reilly. Ben Silverman and Nina Tassler ordain be awaiting your telecommunicate label.
This is just the for something strange to come about -- no rules no investigate just lighting on a backlot -- or someone's approve office. (I'm thinking a politically incorrect show with an all-beautiful all nasty female direct who works in a hyped-up coffee shop.)
Perhaps -- a show given the heave-ho by communicate development teams now coming to NBC after an initial Internet run -- could become that big show. "Quarterlife," from TV veterans Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick is appropriately enough about Web creative twentysomethings.
Imagine if " rockets back to stardom now with all those celebrities - a kind of new "Dancing with the Stars" with ledger sheets. Or conceive of that a new Web series ordain finally move NBC around.
While issues of the TV writers' touch and commercial ratings have dominated the headlines this season so far we've been missing the real challenge: What would happen if a new unexpected hit didn't come out of the old woodwork? It would breathe some air into the old axiom that experts really can't express what works.
Is there a real revolution coming - or just more of the same? furnish thanks this Thanksgiving for some crazy TV show with no chance in the world.
<modified>2007-10-30T13:07+00:00

By Anne Marie D. LeeLast spring. IMEX—the worldwide exhibition for incentive travel meetings and events—announced a greater commitment to the environment adding a color Supplier Award to its annual Green Meetings Award. This is in addition to the Green Exhibitor Award and all three are executed in partnership with the Green Meetings Industry Council. The new Green Supplier Award ordain accept incentive and meetings industry suppliers such as hotels convention centers and visitors bureaus for outstanding efforts in preventing expend and reducing the overall environmental force of their operations. Nominees will be verified and scrutinized by an environmental auditor. Practicing its own advice. IMEX is near the completion of its own very first green analyse. Out of necessity the world is changing for the better. In the Foreword of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts' acclaimed handbook. The Green Partnership Guide: A Practical command to Greening Your Hotel award-winning scientist environmentalist and host of CBS's long-running series The Nature of Things. Dr. David Suzuki informs readers that to expend the natural resources of the planet without investing in sustainability is suicidal: A strong statement. Dr. Suzuki's warning is by no means hyperbole. As the problem of greenhouse gases grows more urgent the public is quickly becoming aware of the enormity of the threat that climate dress poses to life on Earth and more informed about the direct role that carbon emissions play in building that threat. Being a large move of the problem businesses have the power to make a tremendous positive impact on climate change particularly in the areas of corporate travel meetings and events where carbon emissions expenditure is greatest. The Business Case for Green According to the latest installment of reports from the World Resources Institute major European corporations desire British Telecom. IKEA and Lufthansa are switching to renewable energy sources—wind solar biomass—for their electricity needs. Along with reduced emissions the stated benefits to be reaped from this conversion consider displace or stabilized energy costs and stronger stakeholder relationships due to an improved affiliate image. Reduced costs and increased marketing value are positive advantages noted by numerous online articles from respected business sites touting the financial benefits of going green. Speaking from firsthand experience. Michelle color director of environmental affairs for Fairmont Hotels and Resorts says. "Anytime that you can streamline or decrease your utility consumption—mainly your energy consumption your wet consumption—you ordain have a positive economic benefit to the furnish line. The other part of that is it also has public relations value for a number of companies. So it's good for the environment and it's good for business."
According to White as the result of a retrofit in which 4,000 incandescent lightbulbs were replaced with energy-efficient fluorescent bulbs at Fairmont's Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa property in California the hotel is preventing the channel of approximately 300,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere. It also stands to save approximately $61,000 a year. It Isn't color Unless It's Certified The promotional power of eco-friendly claims has all but guaranteed the overuse of the evince "green" by hotels products and services alike. In much the same way that the loosely regulated words "all natural" say nothing about the adjust ingredients of a cranberry-colored beverage pro-environment prefixes and media hype do not pledge that a hotel business golf course or program is committed to saving the environment. Given the seriousness of the issue the be for standardization and certification is imperative. Says Kimberly Lewis director of conference and events. U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in Washington. D. C.. "A lot of people may say they undergo color features but it's not until that certification process occurs that you know for sure." USGBC is the developer of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building rating system. LEED certification represents the highest performance standards in the industry and registration applies only to buildings that will be designed and built using environmentally conscious construction systems and products. Existing buildings seeking LEED certification go under a different program. We pitched Howard on our consumer product business. Our market is outside their stated focus on technology yet Howard was open to learning about out company and immediately able to give good feedback. Rhonda Stinson also contributed to the conversation and was great to undergo involved. If she's available. I recommend having her join your meeting. She's very smart and is influential within the team. Bill stepped into the meeting as come up and seemed to be very personable and similarly open-minded. I have not had the opportunity to meet Robin.
